Tybee Island, GA is located approximately 18 miles from Savannah, GA just off the coast of Georgia.

It is bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the South by the Back River and Little Tybee Island, on the west by inland marshes and waterways, and on the north by the Savannah River and approximately 3 miles away is Hilton Head, SC.

Tybee is accessible by car via the only way on, or off the island by way of U.S. Highway 80 East/West(if you're leaving the island).

Tybee is accessible by helicopter, though there is no airport on the island, but there are 2 landing areas on the island for emergency helicopters.

Tybee is acecssible by boat, using one of two public boat ramps, or one of two marinas, there are no public mooring areas on the island.

Driving Directions to Tybee Island, GA

Savannah, GA Airport to Tybee Island, GA

  • Savannah Airport Drive turns into Airways Avenue, follow it towards Interstate 95
  • Take Interstate 95 North Bound towards Savannah
  • Take Interstate 16 East Bound towards Savannah, EXIT 17
  • Follow Interstate 16 to it's end which curves and merges into Montgomery Street
  • Follow Montgomery Street down two lights to Oglethorpe Avenue
  • Turn Right on Oglethorpe Avenue, East Bound
  • Follow Oglethorpe Avenue until you reach a STOP SIGN(you will pass through several traffic lights prior to this stop sign
  • At the STOP SIGN, turn left onto East Broad Street, North Bound
  • Merge to the righthand lane immediately after getting onto East Broad Street
  • Turn right at the light onto President Street Extension, East Bound
  • Follow President Street Extension, passing under Truman Parkway, 3 traffic lights, and over Causton Bluff Bridge
  • President Street Extension merges into US Highway 80 East Bound, you will know this as you have to pass over a high overpass bridge onto US Highway 80
  • Follow US Highway 80 East Bound to Tybee Island, GA, passing through several traffic lights, over Bull River Bridge and through the Fort Pulaski National Monument, once you travel over Lazaretto Creek Bridge you are ON Tybee Island, GA

Savannah, GA Amtrak Train Station to Tybee Island, GA

  • Follow Tremont Road to Interstate 16
  • Take Interstate 16 East Bound to Savannah
  • Follow Interstate 16 to it's end which curves and merges into Montgomery Street
  • Follow Montgomery Street down two lights to Oglethorpe Avenue
  • Turn Right on Oglethorpe Avenue, East Bound
  • Follow Oglethorpe Avenue until you reach a STOP SIGN(you will pass through several traffic lights prior to this stop sign
  • At the STOP SIGN, turn left onto East Broad Street, North Bound
  • Merge to the righthand lane immediately after getting onto East Broad Street
  • Turn right at the light onto President Street Extension, East Bound

Savannah, GA Greyhound Bus Station to Tybee Island, GA

  • Turn Right on Oglethorpe Avenue, West Bound out of the parking lot
  • Do a U-Turn at the first break in the median(Fahm Street), heading East on Oglethorpe Avenue
  • Follow Oglethorpe Avenue until you reach a STOP SIGN(you will pass through several traffic lights prior to this stop sign
  • At the STOP SIGN, turn left onto East Broad Street, North Bound
  • Merge to the righthand lane immediately after getting onto East Broad Street
  • Turn right at the light onto President Street Extension, East Bound
  • Follow President Street Extension, passing under Truman Parkway, 3 traffic lights, and over Causton Bluff Bridge
  • President Street Extension merges into US Highway 80 East Bound, you will know this as you have to pass over a high overpass bridge onto US Highway 80
  • Follow US Highway 80 East Bound to Tybee Island, GA, passing through several traffic lights, over Bull River Bridge and through the Fort Pulaski National Monument, once you travel over Lazaretto Creek Bridge you are ON Tybee Island, GA

Interstate 95 & South Carolina Hwy 170/17 to Tybee Island, GA

  • Turn off Interstate 95 to Highway 170/17 towards Savannah, East Bound
  • Follow 170/17 to Savannah, you will drive over the really high Savannah Bridge
  • Upon reaching the bridge, stay in the Righthand lane of traffic
  • You will be EXITING Right onto Oglethorpe Avenue right at the foot of the bridge
  • This EXIT merges straight into Oglethrope Avenue, stay in the lefthand lane
  • You will reach a traffic light at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, keep going
  • Follow Oglethorpe Avenue until you reach a STOP SIGN(you will pass through several traffic lights prior to this stop sign
  • At the STOP SIGN, turn left onto East Broad Street, North Bound
  • Merge to the righthand lane immediately after getting onto East Broad Street
  • Turn right at the light onto President Street Extension, East Bound
  • Follow President Street Extension, passing under Truman Parkway, 3 traffic lights, and over Causton Bluff Bridge
